John Molina Jr. stepped into the ring set up next to the MGM Grand race and sports book Wednesday afternoon, Ice Cube’s “You Can Do It” bumping behind him for public workouts ahead of Saturday’s throwdown with Adrien Broner.
Inspirational? Maybe. But there’s no doubt the 140-pound Molina is confident and relaxed for his co-headlining fight on the debut Premier Boxing Champions card from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
Molina hyped up the already-buzzing crowd, tossing gloves and T-shirts from the ring. Mostly, he posed for pictures, soaking in the crowd’s admiration. The grind of camp is in the rearview mirror. Now the fun part comes.
“I can’t wait until fight night,” Molina said. “The hard work is done. Now it’s time to get to the fight and show what we did.”
As for the occasionally brash Broner, Molina said that all the talk, too, is now behind them.
“Anyone can say this, that or the other. The reality is it’s March 7; it’s me and him in the ring facing each other,” Molina said. “He’s great for the sport of boxing. I’m honored to be sharing the ring with him—until fight night. Then all respect goes out the window when it’s time to fight.”
