All four marquee fighters for Saturday night’s Premier Boxing Champions card in Brooklyn, New York, weighed in and are ready for action.
Danny Garcia and Lamont Peterson both came in under the 143-pound limit Friday for their 12-round bout. Garcia weighed 142.2 pounds while Peterson stripped all the way down to hit the mark.
Andy Lee weighed 159.6 for his 160-pound clash with Peter Quillin, who was unable to get under the limit. After initially weighing in at 161.4, Quillin was only able to reach 160.6, making the bout a nontitle fight.
“All you can do is try to sweat off the last pound that he had to lose, and that’s basically all that it was. We were close, but it’s not worth it. At some point, you have to say enough is enough,” said Quillin’s trainer, Eric Brown.
“It just means that we can’t fight for the title, but that don’t matter, we came here to win a fight, and that’s all that we came for. It’s not like he lost a title. We were just going to try to get it back. But the title don’t make the fighter, the fighter makes the title. The bottom line is that we came here to win a fight, and that’s what we’re going to do.”
