In what’s sure to become a flurry of fists, 147-pound title contenders Andre “The Beast” Berto and Josesito “Riverside Rocky” Lopez will meet in the ring March 13 as the Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) series makes its debut on Spike TV.
The bout is one of two exciting 147-pound matchups airing at 9 p.m. ET/PT in the inaugural PBC card on Spike.
Title contenders Shawn Porter (24-1) and Roberto Garcia (36-3) will face off in the co-main event.
Berto (29-3, 22 KOs) is a former undefeated world champion at 147 pounds, having won the title with a seventh-round technical knockout of Miguel Angel Rodriguez in June 2008.
The 31-year-old Winter Haven, Florida, native successfully defended his title five times before losing it in an electrifying 12-round battle with Victor Ortiz in what was named 2011’s Fight of the Year.
Berto won a 10-round unanimous decision over Steve Upsher Chambers in Cincinnati on September 6.
It was his first fight since undergoing surgery on his right shoulder in 2013.
Lopez (33-6, 19 KOs) is a skilled and relentless competitor who fought Saul “Canelo” Alvarez for the 154-pound world title in September 2012.
The 30-year-old Riverside, California, native defeated Victor Ortiz that same year, breaking the former 147-pound champion’s jaw in the ninth round, and has also went toe-to-toe with titleholders Jesse Vargas and Marcos Maidana.
Lopez won an eight-round unanimous decision over Rafael Cobos in Las Vegas on September 11 in his last fight.
