Spence vs Garcia PREVIEW: December 5, 2020 | PBC on FOX PPV

A testing year for boxing takes a big turn for the better this Saturday, December 5, with a mouthwatering clash at 147-pounds. In the headlining event, undefeated WBC/IBF World Welterweight Champion Errol Spence Jr. defends his belts against two-division champion Danny Garcia. The anticipated fisticuffs will take place in front of fans at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, live on FOX Sports pay-per-view (9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT).

So what do folks on the other side of the pond think of the 147-pound showdown? Here’s what several leading boxing figures from the UK have to say about Saturday night’s clash:

Joe Gallagher, 2015 Ring Magazine Trainer of the Year

“It’s a comfortable Errol Spence victory for me even though the fight does look competitive on paper. I look at the things at both fighters do well and even though Danny Garcia can be dangerous with his left hook, does he have the speed of hand or speed of foot to get close enough to Errol Spence to let it go? As long as Errol Spence has taken this fight serious, and he will have done because he’s a class professional, this fight should go his way on the scorecards for me.”

Dave Coldwell, Renowned Trainer & Leading UK Boxing Pundit

“The one big question I have going into this fight is centered around Errol Spence’s car crash at the end of last year. Will any of those injuries he sustained have any impact on how his training has gone or how he performs on the night? If it’s the Errol Spence we’re used to then I just see him having too much variety for Danny Garcia who is probably a little bit past his best. If Spence can get to him early then I think it’ll be a hard night for Garcia and Spence will be able to grind him down as the fight goes on.”

James DeGale, Retired Two-time World Super Middleweight Champion & Olympic Gold Medalist

“I know all about the good fights put on by PBC because I took part in quite a few myself and this is another great one that they’re putting on in a great division. Errol Spence is right up there with the best fighters on the planet at this moment and he’s coming into this fight on the back of Terrence Crawford looking the part against Kell Brook. I think that’s bad news for Danny Garcia. Spence will want to build some momentum heading into what could be a massive 2021 for him and he’ll get the job done in style with a big stoppage victory.”

This is a very good matchup between two guys who’ve both been around the top level for a very long time now. Retired Former World Cruiserweight Champion - Tony Bellew

Callum Smith, WBA World Super Middleweight Champion

“Considering everything that everything that Errol Spence has gone through in the last year recovering from his unfortunate car crash, this is a very dangerous fight for him to come back to. Saying that, if we get Spence at his best then I think he’s a safe bet to get over the line on points.”

Tony Bellew, Retired Former World Cruiserweight Champion

“This is a very good matchup between two guys who’ve both been around the top level for a very long time now. For six rounds I think we’re going to get a very close fight where both boxers take a look, but as things move on, it has to favor Errol Spence. As the fight goes into the later rounds, I think Danny Garcia will start to feel the shots more and that Spence will be able to end matters in style.”

Anthony Crolla, Former World Lightweight Champion

“This is going to be very cagey for the first couple of rounds. Errol Spence and Danny Garcia both have a lot of power and I think both men will be very wary of what the other is capable of. Spence will start to take over as the fight goes into the later rounds and although I think Garcia will be there at the final bell, there’ll be no doubt about the winner as Spence takes a clear decision.”

Michael Conlan, Undefeated Super Featherweight Contender

“It’s Errol Spence for me by late TKO. I look at Danny Garcia and even though he’s had a brilliant career, I think he’s at the back now whilst Spence is leading the race and probably in his prime. Spence is a more rounded fighter and he’ll be smart enough to take away Garcia’s big left hook. It’s an interesting fight but it’s a Spence TKO.”
