Best of PBC 2019: Knockout of the Year

It was a big year for Heavyweight World Champion Deontay Wilder—and an even BIGGER year for his lethal right hand.

The WBC titleholder scored two huge knockouts in both of his fights in 2019 — a highlight-reel KO of Dominic Breazeale in May on SHOWTIME, and another huge stoppage of Luis “King Kong” Ortiz in their rematch in November — to earn him the top two spots for our PBC’s Knockout of the Year award as voted by fans.

“If you didn't see that fight, go back and look at it,” Wilder said of his KO of Breazeale, which earned the top spot with 35-percent of the fan vote compared to his Ortiz knockout, which had 31.8-percent.

“I took his soul out of him. I’ll never forget that knockout.”

Other nominees for KO of the Year included a pair of bouts from the September 21 PBC on FS1 event in Bakersfield, California as Chris Colbert crushed Miguel Beltran the first round and 18-year-old super lightweight prospect Jesus Ramos wowed the crowd in Rabobank Arena with a first-round stoppage of Rickey Edwards. Super welterweight champion Jermell Charlo’s highlight knockout of Jorge Cota on Fox in June rounds out the list.
